"Make each day your masterpiece, You have to apply yourself each day to become a little better, and over a period of time you become a lot better." 

 What John Wooden is trying to say is that you have to practice your best everyday, and by doing this you become a lot better. Everyday you practice you gain experience not a lot but little so everyday that you practice you are getting better everyday little by little. My friend Luis would practice playing the guitar and he was good at it because he practiced R.I.P. LUIS
